Anvil band tour 201810/10/2023 One that delivers plenty of feel good heavy moments, moody reflections and hair-raising groove to satisfy most metal hungers. Not a great album but a good album that is a solid 50-odd minute time waster. To the doomier riffing of Gasoline and hyper-activity of Food for the Vulture, Anvil certainly takes the listener on a who’s who of their history while keeping one eye on the future. From the celebratory groove of the title track (Canada changed its marijuana laws last year). What we have here is 12 tracks of blistering heavy metal with Anvil’s trademark tongue in cheek approach visible here and there. An undying and endearing dedication to heavy metal, the trio certainly aren’t going to surprise many with Legal At Last but that’s fine. If there is one thing Anvil are known for (musically at least), it is for staying true to their roots. Now, Anvil are set to release their new album ‘Legal At Last’ on 14th February 2020, via AFM Records. Yet these difficult conditions have made Anvil what they are today: a band that stands rock solid in the turbulent waters of a musical genre that produces music like no other, by fans for fans. Since their 2009 documentary film The Story Of Anvil which revealed the unvarnished truth about the music industry, the world has been aware that the day-to-day life of most musicians doesn’t consist of MTV Awards, Grammy ceremonies, red carpets, champagne and caviar but mainly of energy-sapping tours with little sleep, junk food and meagre earnings. Like few other metal acts, the band surrounding founding members Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow (vocals, guitars) and Robb Reiner (drums), plus bassist Chris Robertson have earned their laurels of blood, sweat and tears. 55 Anvil's 18th album, Legal at Last, was released on February 14, 2020, by AFM Records. What’s even more impressive is Lips‘ enthusiasm on stage after more than 40 plus years in Anvil. When it comes to virtues such as endurance, unconditional commitment and a thoroughly down-to-earth attitude, Anvil are the measure of all things. Anvil continued touring as its seventeenth album, Pounding the Pavement, was released on January 19, 2018. My favourite tracks from Anvil on this night were the two just aforementioned ones as well as “Winged Assassins.” Two songs that I could have done without were the oldies “Oooh Baby” and “Free As A Wind.” Impressively, Lips noted to the audience that he is 63 years old yet there does not seem to be any signs of him slowing down in any way. Frankly, some of the newer songs such as “Badass Rock N Roll” and “Swing Thing” are some of the best songs that Anvil have ever written / played. There was one song from Hard ‘n’ Heavy (1981), three from Metal On Metal (1982), two from Forged In Fire (1983), one from Juggernaut of Justice (2011), one from Hope in Hell (2013) and two from Pounding The Pavement (2018). That’s impressive when you think that the band has released 17 studio albums. Anvil had a ten-song set on this night and 40% the songs that they played came from three of their last four studio albums. “One thing that sets Anvil apart from their ’80s contemporaries is that they play a large amount of newer material. Sleaze Roxx stated the following in its review of Anvil‘s set at Club Absinthe in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada back in June 2019: May 12 – Cincinnati, OH Legends Bar & Venue Naturally, this ideal creative situation was partly due to the pandemic: Like most of their music industry colleagues, Anvil found themselves cut off from the.
